Letters of Support for Gender Affirming Care
-
What to Expect
If you are looking for a letter of support for gender affirming surgery and want to use your insurance, you will need a minimum of 1 letter of support from a mental health clinician. (APCC, LPCC, MSW, MFT, PsyD)
Some insurance companies require 2 letters of support from different clinicians for bottom or mid surgeries. This could include hysterectomy, phalloplasty, vaginoplasty, etc.
*Please inquire with your surgeon and/or insurance for your requirements

Evaluation and Process
I write letters of support in a minimum of 1 session. (*In some cases, this could take longer) In this session you will be evaluated for Gender Dysphoria based on the DSM-5TR (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). Insurance companies require the evaluation before covering their portion of surgery costs.
You must provide me with your surgeon’s name or the name of the surgery center who will be providing the surgery. I will ask questions about your hopes, fears, logistics of post-surgery care, length of time on HRT (if applicable) and other gender affirming surgeries you have had. I will only ask you what is necessary for requirements of the letter
